Windows and Doors
Blackwood Joinery manufactures all types of Windows and Doors, including casement, double hung and awning windows as well as round windows and all types of solid timber doors including doors with side lights, panels and mouldings using either Cedar or Meranti or any other timber of your choice. We are also compliant with AS2047 Window Standards.
Window and Door terminology
Sash: a sash is the part of a window which opens
Window frame: is the frame which is fitted to the walls of a building.
Door frame: is a door frame fitted to the outside of the building for doors to be hung from.
Door jamb: is a frame which is fitted to the inside of the building for doors to be hung from.
Box Frame Window
A traditional box frame window uses ropes, pulleys and weights as a means of moving the sash up and down, this style was used in the late 1800's and is still used today.

Casement Windows
A casement sash is where the hinges are fitted to the side of the sash and opens outwards like a door, this style is most commonly used in houses built in the early to late 40`s but is still used in new houses today. |

Awning Windows
An awning sash is where the hinges are fitted to the top of the sash and the bottom swings outwards, this style of window came in about the early 50`s and is still a very common style today. |

Hopper Windows
A hopper sash is where the hinges are fitted to the bottom of the sash and the top opens outwards or inwards, this style was common in the early 1900's to the late 40's. |

Double/Single Hung Windows
This style of window is where a Spiral Balance (a tube with a spring inside) enables the sash to move up and down, this method has been used since the 1950`s and is still being used today. |
Timber Flyscreens can also be made up to complement the style of window choice.
Robes/Cabinets
Free standing or built-in wardrobes, vanities and cabinets can be made from either timber or laminate with mirrors, glass or marble as a feature.
Kitchens and Cupboards
At Blackwood Joinery we can custom make Kitchens & Cupboards to your design or ours using quality timber or laminate products, a large selection of Laminex colours and timber stains are available to choose from. We use quality hinges and drawer runners on all jobs.

Bench/Cupboard Tops
You can choose from a vast colour range available in either laminate with post form or square edge, solid timber, stone, or stainless steel.
Doors
There are many styles of doors to choose from such as solid timber, timber veneer, raw MDF pre-finished laminated board, vinyl wrap or painted.
Hinges
Doors can be hung on either piano hinge, butt hinges or the most common form these days are the fully concealed hinges.
Drawers
The most common drawer used is constructed from white melamine with powder coated metal drawer runners or you can choose to use the new style metal sided drawers with soft close.
Cupboard interior
Generally the interior is constructed of 16mm high moisture white melamine board with white backs or you can choose what you would like.
